Between Alpine Pastures and Forest – A Hike to Discover Landscapes Shaped by Man and Nature
Around the villages of the Belleville Valley, the slopes were once extensively used for mountain farming. Alpine pastures, hay meadows, mule tracks… these spaces have gradually been shaped by humankind over the centuries. Today, nature is reclaiming its territory, and the forest is expanding again, sometimes naturally, sometimes with the help of plantings.
This guided walk takes you to discover these changing landscapes: between open meadows, wooded edges, mountain huts (with alpine chalets), and typical hamlets, you will discover the living history of the valley.
The guide will explain how to interpret the landscape: stone walls, terraces, old barns… all clues to the local agricultural past. A moment rich in discoveries, accessible to all, ideal for understanding the strong connection between humankind and its environment.
Each week, several groups are formed according to skill level, and several routes are offered, including: Le Châtelard, Béranger, Goffay, Le Danchet…
