On August 12, 2026, the sky will offer us an event that France hasn't seen since 1999: a spectacular solar eclipse, with more than 93% of the sun obscured by the moon, visible from the Belleville Valley. We will have to wait until 2081 to experience such a spectacle again in Europe.

To experience this rare moment in the best possible conditions, we offer an exceptional hike to the most beautiful high-altitude lakes in the valley, with an unobstructed view of the western horizon—picnic, eclipsed sunset, and a meteor shower as a bonus.

A private viewing spot

From Val Thorens, a short hour's walk takes us to the high-altitude lakes offering the best sunset views in the valley. Unlike the valley floor, where the surrounding peaks can obscure the horizon, these sites, chosen by our guides, guarantee an unobstructed view to the west, precisely where the phenomenon will unfold at the end of the day.

The eclipse, in complete safety

The occultation will exceed 93% in our area, an exceptional rate that will bathe the valley in an unusual twilight light in the middle of August. Looking at the sun, even with a large obscuring light, remains dangerous for the eyes without proper protection: certified observation glasses will be provided so you can follow the event from beginning to end, in complete peace of mind.

The evening's bonus: the Perseids

As luck would have it, the evening of August 12th coincides with the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. Once the sun has set and night has fallen, the outing continues to observe this celestial ballet in a mountain setting where the sky has never been so dark or so starry.
