The Spirit of Mountaineering, Accessible to All

Want to go beyond the via ferrata? Discover Vertical Hiking, an activity combining easy climbing and an introduction to mountaineering. Located in a wild natural setting above the hamlet of Lavassay, this adventure plunges you into the heart of the rocks and cliffs of the Belleville Valley, in a vertical atmosphere… but in an accessible version!

What is Vertical Hiking?

Vertical Hiking (or Via Cordata) is a mixed route combining rock walking, easy climbing, and rappelling. Unlike via ferrata, here there is no continuous cable, but rather a progression in a small rope team with a high-mountain guide. You are roped up, accompanied, and encouraged to plan the route while remaining safely secured.
It's a fun and educational way to learn the basics of mountaineering, without difficult technical challenges or an overwhelming sense of exposure.

Half-Day Vertical Exploration

For approximately 3 hours, you will explore the rocks of the Lavassay site in small groups, learning to:
- Identify belay points
- Manage a rope team with the guide
- Perform simple rappels safely
- Progress together in a supportive and collaborative environment
All under the guidance of a passionate and experienced UIAGM guide.

Who is it for?

This activity is accessible to anyone in good physical condition, from age 10, who has already done via ferrata or rock climbing.
No prior climbing or mountaineering experience is necessary.
